Delta Flight Delayed For Eight Hours Gets Ugly

Jet Fuel Shortages And High Prices Hurt Airlines Profitability

Flying can be frustrating - if you're not delayed thanks to long security lines, the weather or even other passengers on your flight can add to the frustrations of flying. Unfortunately for one group of passengers on board a flight bound for Miami, they had to deal with a flight that was delayed so long, a fight broke out between some of the exhausted passengers.

According to Fox 5 News, Delta Flight 2385 was forced to remain on the tarmac for nearly eight hours on Thursday at the airport in Queens after weather delays in New York and Florida forced the plane to sit at a "remote gate" in JFK.

"This has gotten out of control - there are people fighting each other and it’s gotten both verbal and physical,” passenger Juan Andres Ahmad tweeted. “Police are on the plane! Complete chaos! I understand weather delays and we all want to be safe but this is not about weather but about how Delta has handled it."

At one point, Port Authority police officers had to be called to intervene in a fight that reportedly broke out aboard the grounded Delta flight. However, no arrests were reported and Delta said no passengers were removed from the flight.

A Delta spokesperson told CBS News in a statement that the flight, which was originally scheduled to depart from JFK for Miami at 3:52, had been delayed due to weather in both New York and Florida.

"Customers were offered both water and snack service while on the tarmac and were also offered the chance to take a bus back to the terminal given the plane was parked on a remote pad for quite some time," the spokesperson added.

The flight eventually took off from New York heading for Miami at around 11 p.m. - or eight hours behind its originally scheduled departure time.
