Death Toll Rises After Duck Boat Capsized On Missouri Lake

Rescue efforts have wrapped up after a duck boat capsized on Table Rock Lake in Missouri on Thursday (July 19) evening. Officials said that 17 people died in the accident, which occurred when a band of severe thunderstorms rolled through the area bringing wind gusts near 70 mph. The ages of the deceased range from one to 70 years old. There were 29 passengers and two crew members on the boat when it sank. Police said the captain survived but confirmed his co-worker, the driver, was one of the casualties.

The fast-moving storms came out of nowhere and created dangerous conditions on the lake. One video showed two duck boats being slammed by waves as they attempted to return to the dock, while a second video showed the choppy water. The person filming said he has "never quite seen it this bad. Boats can’t get in. Boats can’t get out."
