3-Year-Old Dies After Being Left In Scorching Hot Daycare Bus For 3 Hours

A 3-year-old boy in Texas has passed away after he was left unattended in a blazing-hot bus for more than three hours authorities said

According to a statement from the Harris County Constable's Office said the 3-year-old was unresponsive when he was discovered inside by police. A reading taken inside the vehicle showed the temperature was 113 degrees while it was parked outside a daycare facility following the conclusion of a field trip.

Students from the Discovering Me Academy were taken to a nearby park by bus earlier that day, returning a few hours later between 2:30 and 3 p.m. the statement said. The 3-year-old who was left in the bus wasn't discovered until his father arrived around 6:30 p.m. to pick him up.

"It's just tragic," Constable Alan Rosen said.

Authorities interviewed the bus driver and the chaperone who took the twenty-eight children on the field trip according to the statement. The boy who died was listed as accounted for on the roll sheet used by the daycare to keep track of students who returned that afternoon.

Constable Rosen said the case is a tragic reminder for people of the danger inherent with hot summer temperatures and is imploring parents and caregivers to take a second look in their vehicle before leaving it.

Rosen suggests people place their wallet, purse, or cellphone near the child, so you don't forget either one once you reach your destination.

“Do something that always reminds you that you have a loving package in the backseat of that car,” Rosen said.

The Houston Police Department says they will be investigating the case while the Harris County District Attorney's Office will decide whether to file criminal charges in the case.
